spaceship mural
I was
commissioned to paint a mural in a large attic room used as a playroom
for children. I painted the main room as the interior of a
1960s spaceship, with the small adjoining bedroom as the computer
room. I hoped that the children would like it; if the children were
happy, the clients would be. But when it was finished I could tell
that the clients, though too kind to say anything, were disappointed. A fortnight later they were happier; they phoned me to say that the first batch of
children had arrived, gone upstairs, and stayed in the room all day, refusing to
come down even for lunch.
